In all fairness Tesla's principles of using high-amplitude long-wavelenght electromagnetic waves for wireless power transmission are monstrously inefficient and would probably interfere with a heck of a load of radio traffic. Modern research on wireless transmission focuses on microwaves, which have less problems, though since their wavelenght is too short to diffract along the curvature of the earth and large obstacles, you need to put the transmitter on a satellite, which can't generate a lot of energy in the first place.

Though I guess that the iPhone does the same electronic principles of those electronics, it only got miniaturized and made more efficient. Same for how gas engines have gotten smaller and more efficient.

this isn't stock, this is some sort of meme, please change that. memes can be art, but memes can't be stock when those pictures aren't even ones you own the license too.

can't compare that old instant camera to your cell phone, the old instant produced a physical picture which the cell phone cannot. Also don't take into account that if you compared, quality wise, those technologies for their day the cell phone doesn't match. No cell phone can do what a top of the line pc can do as far as sheer memory and computing power, no cellphone camera is worth anything to a professional studio camera. When comparing technology of the same caliber (or same relative level of functionality and quality within the full range of options for that device) this picture would be much different. It's still a massive improvement but to compare that medium end video camera to a cellphone video (which is, at best, at the low end of what is available today) is apples and oranges. The cellphone can do much more than all those old technologies combined, but not an equivalent amount of work when the rest of the decade of change is considered.

much better comparison would have just been that bulky cassette tape player with it's limited capacity to some cheap end MP3 player.

Lol -> compares internal combustion engines that use the exact same principles 100 years later (but more efficiently) to electronics that *ghasp* use the exact same principles 50 years later (but more efficiently).

Also your immaturity reeks. And your copyrighted gallery.

oh my arts so bad thats why people watch me and commission me and i recently got a dd but that's only for bad art soooo...that obviously doesn't compare to the fact you also have memes in your gallery

Nikola Tesla invented wireless transmission of massive amounts of electric current , like a hundred years ago, but then they burned his laboratory , all because such an invention would decrease the cost of electricity and companies would lose a lot of money. So years passed and US still keeps his designs hidden. They used Tesla. Who knows where the world would be today if everything didnt spin around money.

Its called a tesla coil. And the Tesla Tower was never fully completed, nor proved to work, before it was taken over by a hotel due to unpaid bills. In 1917 the US government tore it down to protect from german submarines using it as a land mark. :p

Unfortunately, there are many more middle and higher class people who will pay for that gas to get to work and go through their day who are more worried about doing so than the future effects on the planet.

It sucks.

...

We don't. The gas engine from 100 years ago is vastly less efficient than today's one, and none of the technology presented in the first picture is 100 years old. Modern engines and fuel refinement methods are far more efficient and higher speeds and longer miles are a big thing. In fact, here in Britain they had to change the laws regarding Motorcycle licences. Once, you were free to ride anything under 100cc without a licence. Now, due to the greater engine efficiency allowing more power from a smaller engine, high range 50cc bikes are capable of reaching 100mph. This has lead to an increase in accidents so a basic training certificate is needed for 50cc bikes.

The notion of 'free energy' is also kind of insane as even with green methods such as wind, wave, and solar, the methods used to obtain it and transfer it have to be installed, maintained, and replaced, which requires a labour force to so. If it were possibly to cut out everyone who did these things, the rich could stand to make a colossal profit since they would be the ones with the resources to invest in this new, less manpower intensive, energy source.

I know the argument here is that in 20 years technology advanced so that everything in picture one (sort of, that's an instant development camera rather than a regular one, but the camera is the main point) could be done by a single device, but the technology doesn't really match up. Older cars are much bigger, slower, fuel intensive machines. Never mind everything else that they lack. Try looking up what petrol driven engines were like in 1913, along with all the things a car needs to DO. You may be able to create a tiny battery, but can it deliver enough force to move a piston? Electric cars are slowly coming into being faced with other major challenges. Namely how long it TAKES for an electric battery to recharge, and the changes in national infrastructure that are necessary to provide refueling options on the go. And even THEN energy won't be free because there will still be the need for the sources that generate power to be maintained etc.

It really is amazing how much vehicle technology has changed, even in just the last 50 years. I wish more people understood this, but that would require a basic understanding of how cars work. What the majority of people seem to know about engines is that you turn a key and go. No, I disagree!

Also, a phone is not a replacement for a laptop.

I do agree with what you are saying. But I think the laptop point was that a phone nowadays can get super-fast internet connection, whereas before you needed a computer for that. I could be wrong though.

The only differences between cars from back in the day and now is that cars now are stupidly expensive to fix and can be hacked due to the fact they are run almost entirely by computers

I've always said that cars today are 85% electric and 15% mechanical.

My 72' VW bug has lasted me 25 years and gets better gas mileage than 90% of cars sold today with my upgrades. So no, the technology has reached it's peak and is outdated. Yeah, we can continue to drive the price higher and higher with more exotic and lighter materials but is this progression of technology or just an attempt to squeez out the last bit of improvement we can?

Well that's the thing; the VW Beetle was designed for exactly that. It was like the 70's version of the Smart car, or other small "commuter cars."

I feel the internal combustion engine has reached it's peak. As I said, we *could* continue to improve it by building them out of lighter and more exotic materials, but that's only going to run up the price and quite frankly I already couldn't afford a "cheap" modern car even if I wanted to.

Do I think we should all go over to strictly Electric cars? No. But I do think we should put more focus into that area. Because Electric cars are better in almost every single category already. They are faster, extremely efficient, quiet, and handle like a dream. The only problem is the battery technology is not quite up to par and it will be a long time before it will be (a whole new battery technology needs to happen)

^This.

Also cars (for the most part) take us form point A to point B only. Technology as shown in you picture plays a bigger and wider role in our day to day life. Thus it takes more of the forefront. It also helps that most of the tech you show cost nothing close to a new car. So small iterations are easier to justify.

So far from a well made point... but I like the heart behind it.

Cars are perhaps the most important thing we own. Anybody can live without a Cellphone and a computer; few can realistically live without a car.

Cars also are one of the largest contributors to green house gases in the world.

It would make more sense to put all that effort into cars rather than Cellphones. A cellphones purpose is communication, we mastered that long time ago besides, a 30 dollar landline phone does the job much MUCH better. A cars purpose is to make this festering hive we call life function efficiently.

Yes and a massive no. I agree with everything your getting at... "but". Most major cities like New York, Cali., and so on have a mass transit system set up to alleviate most of the waste that only 10-20 years ago choked up most of our air. Also cars are seen as a "massive investment" next to house, collage and so on... thus only allowing most (mid to lower class) homes one or two tops. That's not leaving much desire to throw millions of man hours and money into for an ever shrinking pay out. (Thus what happen only a few years ago)

"Green house gas" comes from everything we do. Think about all the time your lights and or computer stay on. We use "power" in ways unthinkable and at a rate equal to that. Think about ads protesting this "gas"  showing car fumes... they all so show factories and power plants. Cars are a big part of our life... Yet think about the massive number of phones and computer parts that are changed out every year.

Cars need to get better. I know that and want that... but looking at them as the "biggest reason" is just a way for most people to feel better about buying that five hundred dollar phone and trowing out the old one or trading it in for 1/10 the price. We need to wake up too what we do and stop blaming others. Also most people don't have landlines... or if they do they also have a cellphone. That's just the world now.

One more time... I agree with you. I mean no internet harm. I just want the box we think in to open up a tab. (also I'm sleepy as all hell and don't have time to spell check) <3
